Course Syllabus
Module 1: PCB Fundamentals
3 weeks
Introduction to PCB technology, types of PCBs (single, double, multi-layer), PCB materials (FR4, Rogers), copper weights, surface finishes, basic electronic components, and industry standards (IPC).
Module 2: Schematic Design
4 weeks
Creating electronic schematics, component libraries, netlisting, design rules, circuit simulation, power distribution, signal integrity basics, and creating professional documentation.
Module 3: PCB Layout & Routing
5 weeks
Board outline creation, component placement strategies, routing techniques (manual and auto), multi-layer stackup design, power plane design, high-speed routing considerations, and design rule checking (DRC).
Module 4: Advanced PCB Concepts
4 weeks
Impedance control, differential pairs, EMI/EMC considerations, thermal management, via types and stitching, flexible PCBs, HDI designs, and manufacturing constraints.
Module 5: PCB Manufacturing
3 weeks
Gerber file generation, drill files, assembly drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), fabrication processes, solder mask and silkscreen, surface mount vs through-hole, and quality control.
Module 6: Prototyping & Assembly
4 weeks
PCB prototyping methods, soldering techniques (hand and reflow), SMT assembly, testing and debugging, rework procedures, and creating a complete electronic product from design to working prototype.
